Cupping stimulates the flow of blood within the superficial muscle layers. It opens blockages and enables toxins to be released. It is used for sore muscles, neck pain, tension, deep tissue and myofascial release. It also wonderful to strengthen the lungs from respiratory illnesses and loosen phlegm in the lungs. Lisa only uses sterilized glass fire cups on specific areas, creating a vacuum under the cup with heat. The glass may be moved over the area or left in place. Cupping may create small, circular bruises where the cups were applied, which disappear within a few days. In some cases, a small amount of blood letting (vein pricking) is done first, using a pricking needle, and then the cup is applied over the site. This technique is said to promote blood circulation, remove stasis, and alleviate swelling and pain.request an appointment
Gua Sha is a technique with some similarities to cupping. It can relieve sore muscles and obstructions by scraping and stroking the skin with a stone, porcelain spoon or other handheld instrument. This scraping moves blood and metabolic waste that congests the surface tissues and muscles, promoting normal circulation and metabolic processes. Gua Sha on the face and neck moves blood and lymph – reducing puffiness, sinus congestion, reduces wrinkles and facial sagging.
