Facial Rejuvenation with Cosmetic Acupuncture

Facial Rejuvenation: Cosmetic Acupuncture, Micro-Needling & Acu-Glow
Lots of Needles are optional!

There are countless articles and research papers on the benefits of acupuncture, but did you know that it can also be used to combat the signs of aging? A natural alternative to surgery, Botox, or other injectables;  facial acupuncture is merely an extension of traditional acupuncture and Chinese medicine philosophy.

Unlike an injection of Botox or some other filler, facial acupuncture addresses not just the signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles but it also helps to restore your skin’s overall health. During a Cosmetic Acupuncture session, needles are inserted in some body points to assist in your body’s systems and organs to function at their peak and many tiny needles are inserted in the face. Because I don’t like receiving or giving so many needles in a single session, I am excited to offer impactful treatments of micro-needling, nano-needling and Acu-Glow (gua sha) with LED light therapy for collagen building, wrinkle reducing, skin texture improvement and more.

What to Expect

First, you will be asked to complete an intake form specifically for Facial Rejuvenation. This intake asks different questions than what you completed for your initial acupuncture treatment. Assessment and discussion of expectations and likely number of sessions will be discussed. We start with a clean face and a few needles around ankles for energy balancing. If you are having micro-needling, sessions are 4-6 weeks apart. Nano-needling is part of this session and is performed around lips and crow’s feet. A bit of numbing cream is applied prior to starting and when needling is completed, gentle masks are applied and after-care instructions are explained. If you are having a facial gua sha session, this can be an add-on to a regular acupuncture session or a 30 minute stand alone.

Acu-Glow

Scraping the skin invigorates blood flow, releases toxins and stimulate lymphatic draining.  I use a bian stone, which is more beneficial than jade or quartz, which are all over social media. Bian stones contain over 40 trace minerals, produces negative ions,  feels wonderful and the shaping is created specifically for Acu-Glow treatments. These sessions release muscle tension and sinus congestion,  decrease hyperpigmentation,  strengthen connective tissue and minimizes wrinkles and fine lines. Of course, you can also get a stone to use at home on your own with instructions and some wonderful healing products.

What the Research Says

A 2013 study found that facial acupuncture contributed to better skin elasticity. Other studies have reported outcomes like the skin becoming more delicate and fairer, diminished wrinkles, brighter complexion and an overall rejuvenation that isn’t just confined to the face.

A typical course of treatment of Facial Acupuncture, with lots of needles,  consists of approximately 10-14 consecutive treatments depending on the desired results, two times per week for five to seven weeks. To me, this is too much time and money for too small a result. Micro-needling is faster, bigger results and overall less time and upkeep. Acu-Glow is relaxing and beneficial. All types of  Asian Medicine for the face,  will have beneficial results.
